The Oil Crisis Project

We were honored, humbled and moved by attending the opening of the Oil Crisis Project at Mad Art Gallery in St. Louis last night.

Aware of the wonderful photography of Katherine Bish already, it was a certainty that her work would be exceptional and impactful.

It Was.

We urge to to visit one our favorite spaces, Mad Art, and take in the Oil Crisis Project. It's running through October 31st.

An Evening at City Cottage on Choteau

We had SUCH a great evening last night at a great new STL wedding and reception venue, City Cottage on Choteau. Vendors around town were in attendance on a gorgeous almost October evening--- much fun was had by all!

I can't say enough nice things about the space. It's located in the old King Louie's. The building is absolutely gorgeous, spacious, inviting, warm & welcoming. An outdoor patio is a plus in this outdoor living town, throw in a brick oven for pizza (delicious!) and plenty of space indoors for guests and it is easy to see that this venue will be a hot ticket.

Rehearsal dinner, wedding,or wedding reception ----- don't miss a chance to fully consider the space, it is absolutely fabulous. Food by Catering St. Louis, always great as well.
Thanks to the owners and staff @ City Cottage, what a wonderful night. Can I also mention that I'm still dreaming of that wood fired pizza dressed up with figs, apples and goat cheese?

Turning Leaves

As I look outside the studio window into the street scene in Lafayette Square, I see that fall is on it's way! The leaves are turning, the mums are making appearances onto doorways both residential and commercial. Those on the streets on their way to eat, or shop, or even attend a yoga class are clad in the mornings and evenings in something with a little more coverage against the chill.

We're gearing up for FALL portrait sessions, including those for our wonderful engaged couples. More details to come very soon on the Fall Portrait in the Park sessions------ but let me say right now that if you have a session in mind in what is sure to be a gorgeous fall season, give me a call! 314-361-9899--------- I really don't want you to miss out!

Vendor Choices: Preferred vs. Rogue

Brides and Grooms have LOTS of choices to make when it comes to wedding planning! From the choice of photographer (us, thank you very much!!!) to music, flowers,hair and makeup, coordinators, transportation, invitations, church and reception venue, gowns and tuxes and even favors the list seems to go on and on.

Here at BBP, we DO have a list of preferred vendors. Why do we have such a list and how did those vendors "make the cut"???????

We have a list of local St. Louis wedding professionals because we have worked with them, we trust them, they have exceptional work ethic as well as product. On any given wedding day they can be counted on to bring 150% and the day goes 1000% smoother because of their participation.

Recently a bride asked if there was ONE vendor that was a more important choice than another. After a little bit of thought, the answer is no. If you're fortunate enough to have a "dream team" of vendors----- it almost doesn't matter what happens during the entire wedding day, you can know without a doubt that the wedding day will go smoothly and be fantastic. Sometimes things go a bit awry behind the scenes and the bride and groom aren't even aware that there was a glitch or that it was handled seamlessly.

We can also add that almost every time when a vendor choice is made based on price or on a "family connection or friend"-------- at the end of the day it's been said at least once that another choice based on recommendation should have been made. I'm just sayin'.

An educated bride and groom is a happy bride and groom. Ask good questions, listen to the advice offered and make choices that will make your wedding day as beautiful as possible. There is no substitute for understanding how everything works together and how your vendors really do make your day. Hands down.

Fascinating Fascinators

Wikipedia (gotta show some love) defines fascinators a a headpiece, a style of millinery. The name came from a head covering that was shawl like and term had fallen out of everyday vernacular in the 1970's. Well, welcome to our current fascination (no pun intended) with things vintage and fantastic---- the fascinator is very much back in vogue--- and remaining so. Have you seen the adorable Aarti Sequera, the latest winner of the Food Network, The Next Food Network Star? Aarti (besides making delicious Indian inspired dishes) always rocks a fascinator or a flower in this style.

Whether this chic hat takes the form of a cocktail hat, a vintage arrangement of brooch or flower, or an assemblage of all that is fabulous---- the fascinator is indeed fascinating and still making a huge splash be it in everyday street wear or in wedding fashion. While they've been around for several years, this trend doesn't seem to be going away any time soon and they always interest the staff here at Bobbi Brinkman Photography. Where else can you find such an affordable way to really personalize your look be it wedding or non?

They can range from very fairly priced to a bit spendy------ and talented women can make their own with the right findings, a bit of crafty-ness, and some chutzpah. Check eBay for good fascinator bits and pieces if you can't find them locally.

Thanks so very much to Lisa at Belli Fiori for the lovely surprise. When I was home yesterday working (albeit in my jammies!!!!) Bobbi answered the door of the BBP Studio to the very happiest of sights!

This gorgeous arrangement of flowers makes us all smile! The day yesterday (and today to some extent) was so gray and dull that these happy sunflowers and pretty blue iris and other lovely blue-ness for which I have no name really perked up the day.

Fabulous, we'll enjoy them for some time to come! Thanks again Lisa and Belli Fiori!

Pie for a Long Weekend

Well it is a long weekend coming up, right? What better way to enjoy a long weekend with something from the kitchen that shouts to the world what a great catch you are! Pie! Pie? Not just any pie mind you but a rich yet fluffy slice of chocolate heaven. Pair it with takeout pizza or bbq if you must but let there be the labor of pie.

**Note: We might suggest if you have intention of fitting into a wedding gown anytime soon you might rethink the whole pie thing.

Chocolate Heaven Fluff Pie

1 baked pie shell (from scratch is lovely, I mean don’t be lazy!)

¾ cup sugar + 2 Tbs.

¼ cup cornstarch

½ cup heavy cream

2 cups milk (you can use any kind but you’ve gone this far, use whole)

¼ cup dark cocoa

2 Tbs. butter

4 egg yolks, beaten gently

2 Tsp. good quality vanilla

1 cup mini marshmallows

With the pie shell cooling (because you did make it from scratch, right?) prepare the filling. Tumble together all of the dry ingredients and whisk up. Slowly add the cream and stir, add the milk and heat over a medium heat. You can use a double boiler if you like but whatever you do stir constantly. When the liquid begins to steam, add a bit slowly to the beaten yolks and stir up, then remove them back to the mixture on the stove. Continue stirring, add the butter. The filling will go to a stage where it looks kind of lumpy or grainy, keep stirring. When the mixture reaches a bubble, turn off the heat, add the vanilla and the marshmallows and stir off the heat. When the filling has incorporated all of the marshmallows, take a taste. (You know you want to!)

Place the chocolate fluff filling into a totally cooled pie shell and place a sheet of plastic cling over the top to keep a skin from forming.

In the “old days” I’d make a nice meringue for the top but the state of chickens and raw eggy-ness has made me either leave things plain, or add a whipped cream topping if necessary. Luckily this pie is creamy and dreamy enough to need neither unless you just want to take it entirely over the top. It is of course up to you!

Cool the pie at least 4 hours.

Amina and Phillip got the giggles at a recent engagement session, they're such a fun couple anyway! The wedding is coming up SOON, and we're looking so forward to what will undoubtedly be a glorious Four Seasons Wedding with Lacy and her team at Lacy Branch Events!

The couple chosen is from right here in Missouri! Well sort of............. Melissa is from Columbia and her fiance is currently stationed in Afghanistan.

I sort of missed being able to choose the couple--- to watch the fun competitions in the past but it seems like Today is fast-tracking the wedding this year, to be held on the Plaza on September 30th. We the audience still get to vote on the wedding details, right now you can vote on their rings. We chose the "Brilliant Earth" ring, really pretty! Get on over there and vote....... join the fun!

Back here in MO it's the most beautiful weather imaginable! If it could just be bottled and used at will!

Always after time on the road it is time to work, and by that I mean dig down and catch up. (I'm not sayin' that Bobbi is a cruel task mistress or anything.........)

I do know that:

It's been far too hot and thankfully the heat is breaking
My desk is not any cleaner than it was earlier in the day
You can not go away for a weekend with fresh bean sprouts in the fridge
Laundry multiplies
"Loose Meat" sandwiches are greatly over-rated

......and mostly I know that Bobbi Brinkman Photography has the BEST clients in the world.

A fun couple? A fun wedding? ABSOLUTELY! We had a great time with Trish and Andy on their wedding day and I think you can get an idea of why! :)

The bride, groom and wedding party got ready to RUMBLE with another wedding party at the Stadium! West Side Story come to the streets of St. Louis! Who won? We did of course!! Hilarious and fun!

C'mon, it is not every single wedding day that you see a groomsman lose a bet in quite such a fashion. We're still laughing! No but(t)s about it, can you say Good Sport?

It is certainly not typical for the Father-Daughter dance to include air guitars, or Sweet Child of Mine for that matter but it captured this duo and brought the crowd to their feet!

Wow! What can you even begin to say????? Go Trish and just get down with your bad self!!!

Thanks Trish and Andy, family and friends for allowing us to be part of your very special, once in a lifetime day!!!!!!

Be Prepared

The All Important Emergency Kit:

We’ve seen it all------------- from bags the size of Texas holding everything but the wedding limousine to a ziplock bag with one band-aid and two Excedrin. The best emergency kit lies somewhere in between.

You want to be prepared for emergencies, but there is really no need to prepare for an emergency that is less than likely to happen! For example, many bridal lists found in magazines and on the Internet will have you pack breath mints. I don’t consider breath mints a bridal emergency, if you do perhaps you have larger issues?

The best thing is to find items that can multi-task. You will spend less time packing your emergency kit and less muscle hauling it around.

Some things should be ‘off packed’, like your beauty kit. Carry a small little brides bag that will contain YOUR things:

Brides Bag

Lipstick or lipgloss

Blotting tissues

Tiny toothbrush and paste

Floss picks (nothing less un-photogenic than spinach in your teeth!)

Bobby pins
a couple of Q-Tips

In a larger more ‘general’ bag you might consider:

Emergency Bag

Hairspray

BandAids

Aspirin/ibuprofen

A stain removal pen or wipes

Paper towels

Tissues

A small sewing kit. (the operative word is small, basically you need 2 large eyed sewing needles, PRE- thread in white, black and the shade of your bridesmaids dresses and bring sharp, teensy scissors)

Clear nail polish only if the ladies are wearing hosiery and might need to stop a run (does anyone wear pantyhose anymore??)

White correction fluid (works like a charm if you get a stain on your dress that the stain pen can’t get out)

Pantyliners, just in case

Chewing gum or mints

Small spray bottle filled with water (in case you need a damp paper towel)
Bug Bite Pen (or a small baggie filled with cotton swabs saturated in ammonia)

Snacks and water should not be considered as part of an emergency kit but do consider bringing adequate bottled water and some ‘clean’ snacks such as crackers or string cheese along. There is nothing worse than someone hitting the dirt because of low blood sugar! It is the easiest thing in the world to skip having a little snack because you don’t feel as if you are hungry. Small little snacks throughout your wedding day are a must! Bring alongs might include:

Small bags of pretzels

Water (lots and lots of water)

A couple cans of clear fizzy soda, non-diet for blood sugar issues

String cheese

Cut fruit (biting an apple wreaks havoc with lipstick)

Granola or trail mix

Plan well. Personalize. Relax.

It seems as if the news is all about weddings these days from the mild to the sublime and mostly the big and/or unique.

Vogue Daily had a fabulous article online about recent brides who have all worn Vera Wang. Fueled by the recent wedding of Chelsea Clinton, there are great pics of Victoria Beckham, Sharon Stone, and many more. The article is interesting for brides and non-brides, check it out HERE. I just think I might be too hot to think........... fried brains or at the very least soft boiled thought process! The heat index was 115 yesterday and today looks to be the same in good ole' St. Louis---- home of Summer 2010 Extraordinaire---- yikes. Today promises to be almost a carbon copy so I'm already thinking of what to do for dinner that does not require firing up the oven or even standing outside over the bbq grill! We all are!

But one thing I know for sure is that we are honored to welcome a new family member to the best brides in St. Louis MO! Renee and Alex, we are delighted to have you and very much look forward to your wedding!!!

Chelsea Clinton & the Idea File

The wedding of seemingly all speculation happens this weekend, that of Chelsea Clinton to Marc Mezvinsky. Of course we understand the buzz, she is not only a high profile daughter but a remarkable, accomplished and polished woman in her own right, marrying the son of a former Congressman. How will future brides watch and absorb the wedding details? With an eye on the gown, the food, the wedding party dresses and the details for their own nuptials, the Idea File.With a gown by "certain" designer Vera Wang and location in the idyllic Rhinebeck, there are without a doubt clippable photos and sketches to be had.

The Idea File is kept by almost all brides (and their Mom's!) and should be. Our own bride, Danielle, has kept an Idea File for years now. We love to look at these books rich with not only ideas but dreams, they are not only a great springboard but a source for brides, their families and wedding planners to determine exactly what will capture the spirit of a wedding couple and how to best execute perhaps unformed bits and pieces into wedding reality.

If you don't have an Idea File, we urge you to start one or keep fresh and current the one you do have. A three ring binder is ideal and you don't have to have one especially designed or "tabbed" for the purpose. Tuck into the binder a few manila separators with pockets to add things like paperwork that needs to be inserted onto pages in your binder as well as loose clippings by category. A calendar section up front is very important to keep track of special dates like fittings and tastings along with any payments due to vendors. Each vendor (once chosen) should have their own section.

What if you are in the "gathering phase" of your Idea File? Keep sections for flowers, photography, wedding gown, grooms tuxedo, wedding party attire, reception venues, food/menus, music, cakes, shoes (which deserves its' own category, no?), and wedding details which may be as broad as color schemes or as specific as welcome bags for out of town guests. Your file can contain as many categories as you need to express your dreams.

The photo above is such an example. It's been said that Chelsea Clinton will wear something simple and elegant by Vera Wang------- assuredly not off the rack but magnificently custom and we can't wait to see it! The gown above is one of our favorites from the Vera Wang Fall 2010 collection, resplendent in organza and tulle and "crisped" with horsehair giving that wonderful structural almost origami look.

One of the most amazing things is the speed with which "knock off" designers copy garments worn by the famous among us. No doubt this wedding gown will have lookalikes hit the shelves of bridal shops with shocking speed. Not being ones that totally take to this practice, we know for a fact that you can take photos of your inspiration garment, blend that with other details you love and come up with a gown that gives a nod to the original but it still totally yours.

Once you have a few photos/ideas in your binder, you might notice a trend. Are you drawn to gowns such as the one above? Simple but interesting? Or are you a fan of looser and more romantic gowns? More or less fabric? White or off white?

Don't forget to have a general tab----- things like current fashion styles that you love (for example the one shouldered look so popular right now, or jewelry styles seen on stars that you love). Remember, to stay motivated to keep your Idea File going. The trick is then to go over everything (neatly organized of course!) and see your own personal trends, loves/hates, and how everything can work together. This can be a daunting task and frequently a good wedding planner can help bring a fresh eye to the process and offer valuable suggestions.

The fun can be in the process as well------ watching your ideas evolve, or even morph into things you didn't start out as your top picks. Enjoy the process, keep current, remember your wedding is once in a lifetime and the planning should bring enormous pleasure. You may find that after the last wedding toast has been given you are still in the habit of the Idea File for home decor------ or something else. I've personally kept a file for home dec for many, many years and find that it is fun not only to pull ideas for my own home but to see the things that I filed early on. Those "what was I thinking" giggles are always rich!

Now, about the Clinton wedding! Surely we are not alone in waiting with baited breath for those first photographs of a stunning bride, a handsome groom and surely a father of the bride that will have lots and lots of tears!

Last night we had the opportunity to attend the magazine launch party of the latest St. Louis Bride magazine at J.Buck's in Clayton. As always it was loads of fun with good food, drink and the opportunity to schmooze with some of the best vendors in STL. Thanks to Ethan & Nancy, it was a nice evening!

We say it ALL THE TIME------ BBP has the best clients (including our brides & grooms) on the planet. And beyond. Of course the gathering last night gave us ample opportunity to brag you all up!

Late Hours R&R

Sometimes it is a very good thing (to borrow a Martha Stewart phrase of course) to meet with other wonderful wedding professionals after respective gigs and chill. Well, chill with a few beers some food and lots of talk.

We enjoyed Square One last night after Sarah & Joe's great wedding (what a nice couple!) with fellow photographer Tom Paule and DJ extraordinaire Chris and his wife Melissa from CJ's Disk Jockey service.

Almost everyone's first choice of beer/cocktail had been greedily consumed before our arrival by other Square One folk but we did manage to have a wonderful, albeit late, evening. I do believe we closed down the place.

Sunday in St. Louis brings a day of thunderstorms, cooler weather and quiet. We'll be working away on Sarah & Joe's wedding and hoping that the tail end of your weekend is absolutely wonderful!

Now speaking of Martha (and how I do love all things Martha Stewart!!!) I may have to play a bit of hooky when Martha makes her debut on HSN tomorrow! 11:00 a.m. CST----- be there or be square! I'm telling you, that bone folder just makes me crazy! ;)

Post Holiday Miscellany & Today Wedding

So, how was your holiday? Long weekend? Back to the grind? Why is it that when you have a holiday weekend you're almost ready for the next weekend by the time you think you're back in the groove? Our groove has worn thin this week with a crazy schedule. (Sort of like always!)

We're excited that it is almost time for the Today Show Wedding series to start up again. They're sharpening their pencils and getting the short list ready for us all to discuss and weigh in, vote and make the list of those brides and grooms vying to tie the knot on national tv in a wedding on "the Plaza". Tomorrow is the last day for wedding couple hopefuls to apply to be "The Ones" via Facebook. The upcoming series "Modern Love" will culminate in the big televised wedding on October 6th. This year interior designer Colin Cowie will be orchestrating the reception, and voters (like all of us) will choose the wedding gown, tuxedos, rings, cake and flowers by popular vote. We'll be talking about it, hope you'll chime in with your picks as well!

Hotter than a post fourth firecracker here in STL---- that is to say not as hot as it was but still plenty warm enough to get your attention! Here's hoping for great weather this weekend!

Holiday Weekend on tap

Ahhhhhhhhhhh......................... yes! It's a holiday weekend! Are you taking a long one? A three dayer perhaps? Or as the news said last night, "here in St. Louis we take 3 1/2 day holiday weekends!" I wish I could say that BBP will be holidaying----- but 'tis not true. We will all find a way to work in a little bit of bbq'ing, some family, some friends, some fireworks and a cocktail or two.

From all of us to all of you, we hope that you have a magnificent holiday weekend! To help you on your way, a favorite cocktail recipe-- just in case!

Blueberry Martini

1 cup Fresh blueberries, washed and dry, divided into halves for use
2 oz. blueberry cocktail (juice)
1 oz. fresh mango juice (found in the international section of the grocery)
2 oz. really good vodka
1/2 oz. orange flavored liqueur (best possible)

Place half the blueberries into the bottom of the shaker and lightly muddle them, then add all of the other ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice. Shake that baby like James Bond going tropical! The ice will further break up the berries. Strain into chilled cocktail glasses. You may rim with sugar if that is your preference. Make this a 4th of July cocktail by rimming the glass with coarse white sugar and garnish with a pretty little cocktail pick of alternating red raspberries and reserved blueberries.

Most of our BBP Wedding Family, local St. Louis Wedding Vendors, and St. Louis wedding and family photographers as well as those from all over the world know BBP Staffer Danielle. Known to most of us as "Nell" and loved by all.

Our Nell was hired in the Rockwood School District as a first grade teacher! Teachers are finding it difficult to secure excellent positions around town for sure. Because Nell's previous school had such a drop in enrollment classes were cut and well............. you know what that means. We were all on pins and needles waiting for something to come along.

Congrats Nell------- and congrats to your new school!! That school, your new students and their families are the luckiest people in the world!!!

Peering Into The Summer

Over the weekend someone commented that they felt as if the 4th of July meant the summer was halfway over. They're sort of right, I mean although summer has just started after the 4th happens the whole thing sort of skids away!!!

Looks like we'll all have ample opportunity today to practice how to handle STL heat and humidity. The short two day break of the sticky stuff has given way to more HOT stuff. Hotter still will be Kristin & Eben's wedding day.

We met this great couple through clients of ours (actually a Whole Gang that we've had the opportunity to share Big Days with)----- and we know without a doubt that this day will be nothing short of outstanding, heat and humidity notwithstanding.

Today maybe we'll all be remembering chillier days of engagement sessions past!

Dog Days of Weddings

And by "Dog Days" I don't mean bow wow!

Every year we're faced with good old super humid high 90's to triple digits heat here in St. Louis---- and I always issue the same ideas/suggestions to help beat the heat (or keep it at bay somewhat). Just a few tried and true things to consider:

1. Dear Groom, Please order an extra tuxedo shirt. The cost will make you cranky perhaps but when you have a fresh crisp shirt to slip into at the reception you will be so happy!!
2. Purchase cheapie washcloths from a big box store. Wet them thoroughly, wring them out and fold or roll. Slip each into a zippy bag and place in the freezer. On your wedding day put these washcloths into the cooler that will go onto your limo. Blissful relief.
3. Paper fans or even little battery powered fans are nice to bring on location. Although limos are air-conditioned the term may be relative. Trolleys are notoriously hotter than a Sunday flapjack.
4. Blotters for drippy makeup for the ladies are a must!
5. Bring LOTS of water for everyone going on location. LOTS.
6. Instead of salty snacks, some cool fruit is a nice touch (leave the drippy red strawberries and grapes at home please!)

We will take care of you during the heat (you know we will)--- but remember to try and keep good humor, after all the heat is what it is and you might as well roll with it. Don't try to rush, keep hydrated, blot the droplets and SMILE!

Summer is definitely HERE for a while. Let's enjoy it shall we? It beats the cold white stuff in my book!

Retro vs. Vintage

I had the most interesting question yesterday and have spent time since then trying to deliver an accurate answer. That differs of course by the answer I believe might be true and as much as I do try to cling to the reality, my truth is not always the accurate truth..... most times, but not always! :) (Don't let that get around!)

Retro: "of or designating the style of an earlier time"

Vintage: "the class of a dated object with reference to era of production or use"

I'm not sure the "official" dictionary answer gives a clear direction. After all retro is not just clothing, nor is vintage. For our purposes we can say that they both are styles that give a nod or pay homage to style(s) of an earlier time. Most things vintage and retro are considered neither before a production date in the mid-century. (Hence Mid Century Modern).

Many brides, grooms and/or their wedding parties include a little or a lot of vintage/retro elements. Think "something old"--- almost always a family piece or at least a nod to tradition by use of an element that is by style or age vintage/retro.

Popular vernacular has "retro" being more modern, perhaps closer to mid-century, brighter, happier, edgier. Vintage then brings to mind softer, paler, even 'older' than "retro".

Whatever you call the style or the elements, this look is not only here to stay (classic as it were) but increasing in popularity right down to menus, and cakes--- far beyond the style of the bride or groom themselves.

Sometimes, a photo can be made to look vintage when the event itself was not especially so.

If you are a bride, how will you choose to use vintage/retro elements in your wedding? Does use of certain selected items reflect your personal style 'outside' of your wedding?

Definitely food for (more) thought!

To Match or Not to Match

Matching colors of the wedding, i.e. matching the bridesmaids dresses and wedding colors in the accessories (vest, boutonnieres and pocket square) of the grooms and groomsmen occurs in about 95% of weddings. The trend? NOT matching but either coordinating colors or going with something totally different. The most frequently used theme is to use a neutral color such as white, or gray on the male side of the house, but there are weddings out there going with something totally different. It will be interesting to see how brides move forward with this idea, whether it is embraced and used as a fresh new look----- or if matching colors continues and edge out the rebels. What do you think? Matchy Matchy? Or rogue?

Or what about the offbeat idea first seen in the last couple of years where the groomsmen as well as the bridesmaids wore all completely different things? Using a broad color scheme (light pastels, a color such as brown, or a pattern)---- and the visual effect was non-matching but coordinated in a quirky way? The only constant is say, a white shirt.

We love the idea of individuality but the bride and groom do have to consider:

the formality of their wedding
their location
their individual personality

It seems that if you go non-matching, there must be some common thread (no pun intended), whether it be the tie or other accessory. Keeping something exact keeps the whole thing looking intentional rather than like a messy hodgepodge.

And lastly----- to remember that those photos really DO last forever.

Katie & Steven shone at a recent engagement session------ they're a fun couple and it's sure to be a great wedding! Normally I don't tag along on a session (well except for baby sessions of clients who started with us as bride and groom, gotta love on those babies!!!), but I did get to third wheel on this particular session. To be accurate I tagged as far as a local Main Street watering hole where there was beer. I had two if you're counting! I love St. Charles to pieces, I mean they have a knit shop and everything!

It is already Wednesday and the first part of the week has flown by in a supah blur. Kerzooooom. Last weekend's wedding was fantastic but I get to 'brag on' a bit if you'll indulge me. Since (as Bobbi says) my name is NOT on the door and I only wrangle and schmoodle at BBP I can talk about the best photographic wedding resource in STL. Really. Julie and Nick were married last Saturday and they are just wonderful people. The bride wore a lovely dress in one of my favorite styles. She and her family are truly outstanding, her bridesmaids were also excellent in all ways. The Hub, Nick, is also a fab guy and his groomsmen were aces! The reason for the Bobbi Bragging happened at the wedding. The bride and groom (and their parents) were found (and deservedly so) to be just a little nervous when we were minutes out of the ceremony and the soloist/pianist hadn't shown up. She wasn't answering her phone and by all accounts she was a no show. I did comment to our second shooter that I'd be happy to sing "God Bless America" but that seemed not to be the best answer to the looming problem. Ms. BBP herself handled the situation with grace and her usual energy, everyone was calm and mobile internet connections prevailed. We need to do a commercial I think, Bobbi Brinkman Photography powered by Android! Thankfully the start of the wedding Mass became a combo of friends playing the piano and brave women stepping up to sing----- without the blessing America part. We had several past clients in attendance who knew that BBP would get it under control. The missing soloist? Showed up pretty doggone late but did manage to belt out the last half of the ceremony. The day was hot as can be and no one even batted an eye, I told you-- the couple and their attendants were awesome. This couple is bound to have a wonderful life, I mean when nothing really gets under your skin and you can roll with it you have a good start on making everything pretty sweet.

It was an extremely good day to be proud of Bobbi Brinkman Photography----- we (or more accurately SHE with her Name On The Door) rocked it, absolutely ROCKED IT! With a big rock. What can I say, problems are not problems, calm is the order of the day, order is found from apparent chaos, and all things are excellent in the end. Julie and Nick had a beautiful wedding (photos to come) and we all know without a doubt that hiring BBP is a must do! I mean, whytheheck wouldn't you? I'm still grinning, still proud, still glad that MY name is not on the door, if you know what I mean!

I Can't Fit in my Dress Cake-----

I baked a cake for the Mom's in residence this Mother's day. Wanting to be a bit vintage, I dug in the recipe box on the counter. You know the warped old maple box with the cracked lid that holds the secrets of generations! My Gramma used to make this cake, long ago--- and the memory of it has certainly stayed with me. I thought it would be the perfect choice to make and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!

Warning: If you have to fit into a wedding gown any time soon, you might want to delay eating this cake or lace up your running shoes---- yoga just ain't gonna' cut it!

And the vintage recipe, the Mother's Day cake.......................... omg it was so good you have NO idea! It was so good I'm going to give you the recipe and you have to try it. A cake recipe like this one couldn't be easier and the results are phenomenal. Sweet, sticky........... glorious!!!

FRUIT COCKTAIL CAKE

2 c. unsifted flour (I used unbleached organic)
1 1/2 c. sugar (why yes, that IS a lot of sugar, don't think about it!)
2 scant tsp. soda
Pinch of salt
2 beaten eggs
1 (15 oz.) can fruit cocktail (I used double cherry from Sam's)
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together flour, sugar, soda, and salt. Dump in that can of fruit cocktail with all of the juice. Beat well. Bake in greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan at 300 degrees for 4-50 minutes. The cake will be light brown in color when you take it out of the oven. As the fragrant cake emerges from the oven, pour over the icing, assuming you haven't eaten it all! If cake batter looks thin, you can add a little more flour using your judgment....some fruit cocktail has more juice than others. I hear that the cake freezes well but frankly I've never had the opportunity to test this out.

ICING FOR FRUIT COCKTAIL CAKE (similar to the frosting on a German Chocolate Cake)

1 stick butter (again, don't think about it)
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 c. sugar
1 c. coconut (I used a combination of plain coconut and Angel Flake)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts (I used pecans because they are my favorite)

Cook together the ingredients, the icing will thicken a bit and get a very light brown color. When the cake is out of the oven, immediately pour the icing over the top.

We have a fair amount of out of town brides and grooms. As a matter of fact, we consider ourselves quite good at the sometimes juggling and special care that comes with such couples. The e-mail and telephone side of the house which is always great-- gets stepped up a few notches as needed. We love our out of towners---- and we love Amina and Phillip for that reason and more!!!

I miss spring------ I mean, technically it is STILL spring, and with a high of 70 today and spring showers in the forecast that fact can't be denied. I mean I miss the blooms that sprung from bulbs, the daffodils and tulips, as well as the forsythia bushes of brilliant yellow and the blooming trees in pinks and whites.

How can you not wish that even a small part of spring color would remain all summer long?

We LOVE Jennifer & Shaun, I'll just start with that!

The weather this past Saturday in STL was, well............. to say it was "wet" is a gross understatement. Crazy weather, just crazy. We were fortunate to have Lisa and Will McDowell along for the day and what a special day it was!

How cool is this shot? There was no shortage of puddles and lots of water everywhere!

Both the bride and groom as well as the wedding party never groused a peep! Not one word. It rained off, and on throughout the day. Luckily after the beautiful ceremony at the Jewel Box, the rain was light and everyone wanted to go out on location for photos.

And the photos are just beyond special. The ring above is one Shaun had made using the wedding logo!
Another groom "special touch" shot would be Shaun's socks------------ lawsy, gotta love and deeply respect a man in pink and black socks! Jen rocked out gorgeous hot pink shoes as well, minus the striped socks thank heavens!

Jen wore a very pretty veil for the ceremony and when the veil was lifted, this really great headpiece remained.......... exquisite!

The weekend flew by, as always during wedding season! What a gorgeous Saturday for a wedding in Washington! Everyone was out and enjoying the sunny and still cool weather. Location photography was loads of fun and one stop in particular was to spend a bit of time with Alecia and Caleb and their wedding party at Balducci's (one of my personal favorite local wineries!), it seemed that everyone in the world was there--- man was that place packed. Suffice it to say that the hard working crew at BBP did not get a chance to enjoy the fruit of the vine.

Cooler weather coming in this week and lots to do as well as new brides to meet.

The weather makes me think of baking, why is that????? Maybe Bourbon Bread Pudding???? I think so too! Decidedly un-springlike.........You know what they say, a little for the dish and a little for me! ;)

Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

2 cups whole milk (don't skimp on this!!!)
1/4 cup butter (no plastic tub stuff, this IS bread pudding after all)
2/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark, depending on taste preference)
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups bread with some oomph, tear into chunks

Directions:

1. In medium saucepan, over medium heat, scald milk. Combine butter and milk.Cool.

2. Combine sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed for 1 minute. Slowly add milk mixture.

3. Place bread in a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart casserole.

4. You can use raisins if you like------------ personally I think they're nasty but it's up to you!

5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until set. Serve warm.

If you make the sauce to put on top of your bread pudding, adjust the sugar in the bread pudding recipe, change it to 1/3 cups sugar (the sauce has the other 1/3 cup in it).

Bread Pudding Sauce

Ingredients:

3/4 cup whole milk
2 Tbsp. butter
1/3 cup granulated white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. flour

¼ cup bourbon (the good stuff) You can omit this of course............. but why?????

Directions:

Have a shot of bourbon. Mix everything except bourbon together and bring to a boil for 3 - 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Add bourbon the last minute, maybe have a little more for yourself? Set aside for 5 minutes, then pour on warm bread pudding.

It truly would be impossible to have a more glorious day for a wedding than last Saturday when Michelle and Brad were married. Despite the allergies of many. The sunshine was bright, the bride happy and smiling, the groom with a grin, the flowers all over town in their glory------ absolutely beautiful.

In the photo above, poor Brad is not sure at ALL about Michelle cheerfully posing with my knitting (Tina's knitting of course!!!). It's always the highlight of my day spent with a bride and groom (past the I Do's) when a bride that I've gotten to know and enjoy takes a shot with my project du jour. I love our brides--------and aren't I lucky that they ~~love~~ put up with me!!!

The Bees Knees- Ashley & Mickey

I've heard it said that nobody except the bees are happy in St. Louis right now! With pollen at all time highs, the thick coating of yellowish pollen laying on everything (including people), and various blooms, blossoms, bits and flowery parts floating on every puff of wind, even those that aren't normally bothered with allergies are suffering. Ahhhhhh Chooooo!

There are exceptions to the Bees Knees Rule------ that is, other things to be happy about in the gloriously blooming city of STL. The Cards won their home opener and the city was a sea of red, as well as smiling faces. Some faces were both red and smiling but that is a story for another day! The blooms abounding despite their sneeze inducing reactions are gorgeous! The tulips seem exceptional this year!

And here at the always happy BBP, we're thrilled as can be to welcome another couple to the wedding family at Bobbi Brinkman Photography! Ashley & Mickey--- we're all so thrilled to have you on board and are looking forward to getting to know you better, counting you as lifelong friends, and of course capturing your wedding with "Images from the Heart..." The options are of course endless------ and the BBP Opinion is just that, our opinion. There are of course others! (Note: Other opinions while freely stated are likely to be less magnificent than The Party Line!!)

We've seen it ALL------- and giving a nod to:

... we feel that a couple of things hold true. No matter the personality of the bride, or current trends, classic always holds true. Always. If you opt for say a bright pink nail polish on your hands, it might look fresh and current NOW, it might be very dated in a few years. As much as we love the super dark colors now, they are better for everyday wear and will be on the top of the list for things that date a wedding photograph. Think avocado green kitchen appliances.

The classic french manicure always looks good, clean, fresh and pretty. It is to be noted that it is also the super safe choice!

For hands we also like a clean sheer polish, a nice soft pink, peach or nude. The polish color should be a sheer wash of either the color of your wedding dress or the colors of your bridesmaids dresses or color theme of your wedding.

Having said that, toes? The toenails can PARTY! Often a bride chooses either a fabulous shoe style or color (or both) for her wedding look. The hands are seen and photographed much more often than the toes. Pedicures are an absolute MUST, but the color of the polish can be super fun if that is the personality of the bride. (Think hot pink!) Or more muted as well. If you are the kind of bride that likes that pop of shoe color on her wedding day, you're likely to love a happy toenail polish color as well.

Mani Pedi is best done the day before the wedding giving time for the perfect dry time, but it will still look fresh on the wedding day. Ask for two coats of top coat and allow PLENTY of time for drying. When you go to bed on your wedding day don't forget a good slathering of top quality foot cream and a little pair of cotton socks. When you wake up on your wedding day your feet will look gorgeous smorgeous! The same goes for hands but many brides can't sleep in cotton gloves. Either way, don't forget lots of really good hand cream!

The bottom line is plan ahead! Try out different nail colors and mani pedi's you think you will love. Ask your manicurist for ideas! Give a thought to different shapes or lengths or fun things. Remember that a classic semi-short oval nail is the most classic although many brides do still go with extentions. You have the opportunity to read a lot of nail color resumes and give them all a chance to see if they will make the final cut!

Go shopping for nail polish----- purchase a few of your favorites and take them with you to your manicurist. The choice of colors at your shop might be somewhat limited and if you bring your own color (and top coat!) you're assured of a super fresh bottle of polish that will deliver excellent results.

Recently Nancy Pasternak (a favorite television face in St. Louis) contacted a group of photographers who provide infant bereavement photography here in town. Because Bobbi has been an integral part of the group for years and served as area coordinator, Nancy asked her to be part of an assemblage of wonderful photographers in the group for a piece to be aired on television.

Because Bobbi has such a heart for SHARE, the charity where Bobbi Brinkman Photography chooses to give back, she was more than happy to oblige.

The piece has now aired on HEC-TV, it's informative "State of the Arts" program. Nancy reported on this group and the resulting show (appearing at the 37:30 mark in the show, both on television as scheduled or viewed online at the link above).

We were all really thrilled with the show, with the fabulous Bobbi herself, and with the coverage given to SHARE. It was great to see Bobbi, Jennifer, Kim and Jodi speaking about their passion and love for these special families.

I hope you get the opportunity to view the piece, it is wonderful!

A Green Easter

So here is the best thing of all, culinarily and perhaps only to me---- the arrival of a certain black and white box. Contents? Green chilis, necessarily frozen as they are not in season currently, and quick shipped to my kitchen. A must have purchase to my thinking!

The cost for 5 pouches of frozen green chilis, one pound each, including shipping (free, riiiiiiight!) was $65.00. Two pouches makes a batch of the best thing in the world, green chili stew. I'm not kidding, it really IS the best thing in the world, amazing, fantastic, nirvana! Computing cost means two pounds of chilis, a pound of pork, a pound of potatoes, chicken broth and cilantro. Let's call it $36.00. Thirty Six dollars for a batch of green chili stew (worth it at any price)----- which let's say makes 4 dinner sized servings. That is $9 a serving. Now I feel so much better, just waaaaay better----- as purchasing the chili of the gods in Santa Fe runs about that.

The weekend is here and I've prepared by laying in groceries for the traditional Easter BBQ (what? You don't have barbeque for Easter?), and making a big pot of green chili stew. The chilis themselves arrived frozen so after thawing them, taking each individual chili and stripping off the burned-y black-y skin from the outside, cutting off the cap and de-seeding them was a happy labor of love. I kept the seeds from one of the chili's for the stew, liking a bit of heat and not knowing how hot the chilis were on their own, it seemed a good place to start. After browning pork cubes and adding stock and potatoes, simmering and then adding in those lovely chopped chilis the kitchen smelled amazingly wonderful. Would it be the same as my beloved eaten 2-3 times each day while in Santa Fe chili? Could it be? Or was it simply $65.00 poorly spent.

\ I know, it sort of looks awful------ don't judge!!!!!!

The verdict was a resounding YES------ what a delicious and happy bowl of stew! Worth every step along the way from ordering the chilis to the preparation. I will add that it was HOT, and I like spicy so for me to say the stew had a kick is saying something. Boom! But delicious!! I'll scoop some of the pork and potato-less liquid out, thin with a bit more sauce and have a Saturday breakfast of scrambled eggs, cumin and spice fried potatoes all smothered in green chili sauce. Oh yeah. I'm pretty sure that the Easter Bunny will be joining me for a pre-hop brekky to get him going. No pun intended.

Easter is on the way and it will be bracketed with Green------- mostly chili stew! Cookies have been baked and assuming they make it until Sunday, dessert for the oh so traditional bbq will be ready too. Cream Puffs---- maybe some cream puffs?

Clearly the chili has gone to my head!

In Your Bonnet... Wedding Hats and Headwear

As Easter approaches it brings to mind one thing (after chocolate and eggs of course!) ---Easter Bonnets! There is no sweeter thrill for me than to keep watch on Easter morning for the parade of Easter bonnets headed to church and around the city. Tall ones, short ones, big ones, small ones.................. some wonderful and some less than. I'll be wearing a super short haircut and maybe a magnolia hair pin or two!

Re-entry after a bit of time away is ALWAYS difficult. Everyone is back in the studio at BBP and hard at work.

The official welcome back to STL was a police chase, rainrainrain, and a hockey game. The win of the Blues was just about the only bright spot.

On the Road------

No, not one of our grooms----

From the road, outside Tulsa I believe----- what a kickoff shot for the trip west. Coney's are it seems quite the thing and this coney was outside a joint sharing space with a gas station. It was packed, who knew?

And from Amarillo where fields wearing the first blush of green wave to spring hungry eyes comes the bug graveyard. A Conway roadside bit of a mess featuring the local homage to the graveyard of Caddies a bit further down the road.

No shots were taken from Groom, (no bride just groom) and the water tower tipping precariously and apparently quite the big deal around these parts.

Not my shot so thanks to Brent, whoever he is. See, I told you------ quite famous this tower.

More shots as the road (and trip) unfold. Rt. 66 is a very cool thing indeed! On the way to attend the Annie Leibovitz event, more as the miles click by!

Price should not be the only factor when deciding how to allocate your wedding dollars---- or anything else for that matter! We do hear all the time from brides who choose vendors based on budget and low price and end up with disappointment and often far worse.

The Color of Winter

The color of winter? Why GRAY of course! Dull, drab, nasty gray. While the rest of the country has seemingly gotten more in the way of snow, or cold, or just plain winter-- we have been slammed with the gray and grim.

Good thing that we have such great clients to brighten things up, like the wonderful Shaun and Jennifer in the photo above. We've said it before and we'll say it again, our clients are such blessings and we can't be happier about them. Actually in a unanimous vote we think that Jennifer and Shaun shouldn't get married this spring as we'll all be so sad without them in the "current" file!!

Mardi----- Tuesday of course. How goes yours????? And this particular Tuesday is Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, hence Mardi Gras. The big party happened last Saturday in St. Louis and it was my job to be the designated "dropper offer". Meaning heck no I'm not going to go hang out with those crazy people................. but I'll drop you off as close as we can get! Every year the floats line up outside the Studio, loads of fun to watch, and it never ceases to amaze me at the number of beer, booze, jello shots and even syringe loaded shooters make their way through the Square at an hour early enough to make the biggest partier blush. (Or color slightly!) I think there are still some local hangovers happening!

Today on Fat Tuesday are you loading up for Lent? Even in those individuals without lenten traditions, some sort of Fat Tuesday thinking ensues. One of my favorites is the annual Hawaiian Fat Tuesday tradition held on Oahu, when the famous Leonard's Malasadas prepares for a gazillion people to fight for parking on that little lot in order to score some of those incredibly sweet and sugary pastries. I miss Leonard's! And today (yes TODAY) is the annual, eagerly anticipated MALASADA DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In case you've a mind to whip up a batch of heaven, from the Punahou Carnival in Hawaii comes a great recipe that I've used quite a few times when locked on the mainland means you just have to have a malasada!

Ingredients:

1 package yeast (1 T)
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup warm water

6 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup melted butter or margarine
1 cup water
1 cup evaporated milk
6 eggs

1 quart vegetable oil (to cook)
extra sugar

Procedure
Dissolve yeast, sugar and water and set aside. Beat eggs. Measure flour into mixing bowl and add salt. Make a well in the flour, pour yeast mixture, eggs and other ingredients. Beat in circular motion until the dough is soft. Cover, let raise until double. Turn dough over but do not punch down. Cover and let raise again. Heat oil to 375 degrees and drop dough by teaspoon full into oil and cook until brown. Shake in brown bag with sugar. Best when hot.

Note: If the malasadas have a tendency to come out with the center still doughy, turn the heat down on the oil which will allow them to cook longer. ***My note, the malasadas don't have that doughnut "hole"......... so a longer cook time is almost always necessary, especially if you make them too big in the first place! ****Double note: I like to mix sugar and cinnamon to shake some of mine.

I will tell you straight up, this (or any) malasada recipe is just not as good as having one from Leonards! NOT! I think it is something about eating one hot as you leave the store, graced by gentle tradewinds and blue skies, warm and sunny, add sugar and you've got something!

Another addition to the wedding family here at Bobbi Brinkman Photography---- and what a wonderful addition it is!!!!

Julie and Drew are getting married 'on the Illinois side'-------- which when you live in a town like St. Louis is just an expansion of the Metro. We've seen Julie around a fair bit, she hangs out with some of our favorite past brides who know that we'll take excellent care of the almost marrieds.

We're looking forward to the Big Day, it's going to be a LOT of fun!

We're in between rounds of snow by the sound of it. With more snow coming this weekend and a back that is still more out than in (ack) I think it is time to give consideration to the munchies one eats when it is snowing and you wouldn't go out in it unless the house was on fire and even then it's not a sure bet. :)

One of those must have items is the Chocolate Drizzle from Target. Sweet, crunchy, chocolatey, and a little bit spicy---- HEAVEN. Because it is made from cereal products that is a grain which is of course really good for you and your entire health profile! I say buy two or three bags because one is never enough and you just might find that other people discover this deliciousness and there is a run at Target leaving you unable to find more when you really REALLY need it. We can't have that. I bet Julie and Drew love the Drizzle too!

White Stuff

Here at BBP we are constantly surrounded by white stuff:

wedding dresses
tuxedo shirts
tulle veils
etc.

But today we are surrounded by white stuff of another order. SNOW! It's a dirty word to me, way too much sand in my shoes to find winter at all amusing, lovely, or even peaceful. 5 inches of snow fell outside the studio doors today, bring on the shovel! With the bitter cold temperatures, the snow may well hang out to wear out it's welcome (which was none too warm in the first place!!!!)

Trying to shift gears, how about some other white things we love????? Thinking of a warm and lovely destination (DisneyWorld) we show a couple of 'magical' gowns by Kirstie Kelly for the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings.

More Family! Welcome Megan & Charles!!

We're so happy to be able to welcome another couple to the wedding family at Bobbi Brinkman Photography! Megan and Charles, come on down!

Megan is the sister of one of our grooms, the fabulous Matt of Andi and Matt fame! Now Megan tells me that she is the BEST family member---- and we have no reason not to believe her. As Andi and Matt are now expecting their first sweet baby perhaps they are otherwise occupied and will not argue the point?

Regardless, we're really pleased to have Megan and Charles as part of the family! As always, it is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to capture their wedding with "Images from the Heart..."

Lovely Cakes--- from Martha Stewart

It must be the beginnings of the February doldrums because my mind is thinking CAKE! Not just any cake of course but wedding cake. Lovely, luscious, sweet and wonderful, loaded with frosting and tinted a pretty color. Yum!

I thought I'd share a few of my favorite cakes from Martha Stewart (thanks Martha!)----

A Charlotte of a cake------- I can imagine a tiramisu-ey cake maybe with the ladyfingers around the edge?

LOVE this clean and geometric cake, elegantly monogrammed and presented so simply. I bet it tastes as good as it looks!

A croquembouche wedding cake! How fabulous is this!!!!! On top of what is undoubtedly a yummy cake layer comes a fabulous presentation of sugary delicious croquembouche(s)! I have no idea in the world how you would SERVE such a magnificent frippery of cake but it would be fabulous!

Enough said!

Upcoming Show & Cute Little Custom Toppers

We're all prepping for one of the favorite wedding shows of the year! Held this Sunday at Windows Off Washington, St. Louis Bride will gather great vendors in a great space all for local brides. If you are planning on attending the show, Bobbi and I would just love it if you would please stop by and say "hello"!

We found the cutest little custom cake toppers! They're absolutely not for everyone, some brides and grooms opt for flowers, sentimental or vintage toppers, or any other manner of cake dec finery. These were simply too cute not to share!

They come from The Small Object, owned by Sarah Neuberger.
You know you are in for a treat when you visit her site and are met by the little "sticker" above.......... yes do, close your eyes and smile real big. She's creative and just plain fun! Whether or not you covet these little toppers, they're loads of fun to look at and a set could look just like you!

I'm especially enamored of this couple of course!

Busy stuff around the studio, just seems to be a lot going on.

One of the things that are always enjoyed are engagement sessions, a nice time to re-connect with BBP brides and grooms and have a little fun. The last blast of uber cold weather brought that dry powdery snow and one brave couple took advantage of the gift (ack) from Mother Nature and have Bobbi shoot their session. Okay, okay--- it was all about Caleb's tight schedule and that whole bird in the hand thing (make hay while the sun shines????) Bad metaphors aside, Alecia and Caleb made pretty good use of their session tiime I'd say! The question is, who won that snow fight??????

I remember that nasty cold--- it seems forever imprinted on my memory! Thank heavens this week and into next remains extremely mild by comparison! You know that Old Man Winter isn't done with us yet!!

We love this couple and their families, it was a blast working with them during the period leading up to their special day. On one of the hottest days of the year they were married and such completely great sports about the heat.

Life After Snow

The snow arrived, a few inches here at the studio although it is hard to tell REALLY with the drifting and blowing. What we know for sure is that it is cold. Super cold and getting colder. (I yearn for warm tradewinds and sandy beaches in a big way!) Have I mentioned that it is going to be 82 in Honolulu today?

Maybe it is just time to remember that there is STL weather not below freezing and that the snow does (someday) give way to green grass, sunny skies and warm temperatures.

Yes, there IS golf. Not for a few months but golf cometh along with activities that are without skis, snowshoes, or shovels. Mickey and Jason will tell you.......................... y'just gotta' hang on!

Engagement sessions in the snow are coming up (weather permitting of course) and I can assure you that they won't look like Jennifer and Shaun's!

No short sleeves or jacket-less posing will be happening. (I hope!)
