Holiday Aftermath

Tina says (while drinking eggnog): Christmas is over---- as much as I tried to slow it down it just didn't happen. As expected my son didn't make it home from NYC, boo hoo. He will arrive this Wednesday in time to spend a long weekend and to ring in 2010. I think the unexpected perk is that I need to stay out of the cookies and gingerbread in order to make sure he has enough of home goodies when he is here. And that lonely bare under the tree look has been postponed as his gifts are still bright and shining under there. (Along with my new set of BLUE Martha bowls and kitchen towels). It's going to be an aqua 2010 for sure!

Bobbi says: It was a great Christmas! Everyone in the family had a great time and we were all together, it doesn't get better than that! Even the dogs had new sweaters!

Nell says: Christmas was great but the best part is having some time off! I loved my first Christmas as a first grade teacher, the kids were adorable! I'm having a great time seeing friends who are in town for the holidays and my boyfriend and I will be celebrating Bobbi's birthday (note from Tina----12/27) with some hockey!

All Other Staffers are out of town or slacking off and unavailable for comment! :)

All told it was a lovely few days, near perfection and I don't say that often. Even Mother Nature conspired to bring enough snow on the ground (and little on the roads) to call it a white Christmas.

From everyone at BBP here in the holiday aftermath----Hope you and yours had the very best of times.

One SHORT Week!

Well kids, Christmas Eve is one week away from today!!! I'm not quite sure how it came to happen so fast (as it always does) but there you have it.

Here's hoping your shopping is done, your gifts are wrapped and all things are orderly so that you can enjoy this special time of year with family and friends. After all, isn't that the most important thing in the world?

You bet! Especially now, count your blessings and pass one on!

New Boyfriends for the Holidays

We have the best preferred vendors----- the best in the world hands down. The fact that we also consider them friends ('cause we're fussy y'know?) is such a bonus and a blessing.

Last night the fabulous Chris from C.J.'s Disc JockeyService (himself funny and hugely entertaining as well as being a phenominal d.j. along with his crew) took the whole BBP crew to the hockey game. Well those of us who matter------- Nell and Tina along with Bobbi (kidding other staffers, kidding!!!!) to Scottrade. The whole night was really great but I think one of the biggest goosebump moments was both benches banging their sticks for Mr. H*ull--- awesome.

For those of you who were not as lucky as we were, what a fab night! The greatest hockey players in Blues history there as the 'dream team', B*rett H*ull a new hall of famer, and my boyfriends (who adore me) WON!!!! They played really great hockey and what a nice touch that Mr. Janssen threw off the gloves early, excellent! The goals from Andy and Alex (we're on a first name basis of course) were sweet as can be and boyfriend T.J. scored the game winner. Go Blues!

I think because it is the holiday season and I don't want Mr. H*ull to feel all sniffly I should make him one of my new boyfriends. It's only fair! As Mr. G*retsky was on hand last night and there is nothing worse than feeling left out, he can be my new boyfriend too. A magnanimous gesture I don't mind making one single bit.

Chris? Oh, he gets boyfriend status too-------- his wife won't mind a bit! If you are in the market for a great d.j. give him a jingle..............promise???? But the hockey tickets are MINE! :)

Bowling, no Elves

One of my holiday weaknesses is Elf Bowling, I confess. I have a very, very old game on my computer from the days of the infancy of the game. There is something wonderfully holiday-ish about playing a game or two and listening to the elf taunts and giggles. (Can you say "guuuuuteeerrrrrr balllllll") Elves aside, Bobbi had the opportunity to hang out for a bit with fellow STL photographers at Flamingo Bowl last night and a great time was had by all. Brides? You're in good hands, what can we say!

Wrapping Up Ends

When Bar*bara W*alters is on the telly with her end of the year special you know that it really IS that time! We've been so busy around BBP trying to get holiday orders up and out that I sort of forgot that 2009 will be over soon and we'll be ushering in 2010. (I'm sure you share my shock and dismay---- if you are one of those organized folks please keep your smug satisfaction to yourself!!!)

It's always wonderful to see so many old and new clients as the holidays approach-- a treat!! With so many coming and going either picking up orders or delivering goodies it definitely gives us all time to reflect once again that we have the best clients in the world, we treasure them all not only as clients but as friends!

Now, about that end of year tv thing, how can you not tune in? Sounds like it will be great tv to wrap by. Did I say wrap? I'm woefully behind I'm afraid, Santa will be delivering F*ed Ex.

This leads me to that eternally seasonal question...............

so, have you been naughty...........................................................or nice????

Sniffles

I loved all of the photos from Becky's first birthday------ she is a sweet and spunky little girl and we know, love (and have photographed) the whole family. Above, with daddy Tim she has a moment. Those moments popularized by one year olds (and well beyond) where a sniffle or two becomes, well becomes something more. Photos like this always remind me (especially this time of year) of kids who suffer meltdowns when face to face with Santa. If only the photo had audio, but you can provide your own!

Surviving a Holiday Weekend?

We've heard from many of you [our wonderful clients] that the Thanksgiving holiday has been a little stressful, mostly wonderful, and a little exhausting!

Snippets heard:
  • my first turkey was really horrible!
  • his parents drove me crazy
  • Black Friday shopping was not fun this year
  • vs.
  • Black Friday shopping was great this year
Regardless, everyone here at BBP hopes that your holiday weekend is fabulous and that you're managing a lot of fun and only a little stress!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We're thankful for great clients, friends, and fellow photographers that we respect and enjoy! From the BBP table to yours, a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Tardy Welcome & Holiday Greeting

Okay, okay, okay. I really did want to title this blog post "tardy to the p*arty". Doing so would immediately label me a devotee of the B*ravo tv show about those naughty ATL housewives. Which I of course would never watch, like ever. Okay maybe sometimes and does Kim just GET you? So I didn't name it that, even though I wanted to. Now you are thinking it, aren't you?

I digress because of course I am just super late in updating the blog, and I hate that but I do sorta' have a great excuse (or more like a zillion of them!) We've been kerflummoxxed at the Studio, yes, around BBP things have been super busy. Not always a bad thing!

And of course my very favorite holiday of all time is tomorrow and as I work from home with getting the blog updated first on my list just now being accomplished past 4 p.m.----- the smell of pumpkin pie hangs in the air, redolent of cinnamon and ginger, soon to be joined by the smell of turkey and stuffing.

But MOST importantly today I need to make a warm happy welcome to the BBP Family! We are tickled to be able to have new family members, Caleb and Alecia! We're all very, very pleased to have you and we can't wait for the wedding!

If you've stuck with me this far know that everyone in the BBP family wishes you and yours the very best of Thanksgivings! May you be surrounded by those you love in a place you are nurtured in. May your dinner be delicious and enough to share, may you be peaceful and able to count your blessings.

Especially on Thanksgiving, don't forgetwhat we always say, count your blessings and pass one on!

My boyfriends---- No Wedding Content

Nope, no wedding content, not one whit. I did work yesterday (of course) but was happy to leave last night by 6:00------ (Thanks Tom!) after all it was to see the object of my affection.

The Blues.

I used to be completely passionate about the PBR, that is professional bull riding. I love me some cowboys on bulls, but I digress. Bobbi is quite the hockey fan of course, for those that know her they understand the depth of her passion for the sport and photographing it. I'm newer to the game but no less crazy about it.

I adore hockey, every bit of it. Dressing in blue to go to the game, tucking in enough money to perhaps score a Guiness or a box of funnel cake fries, maybe a hot dog while arriving early enough to watch the warm up. The sight of those completely adorable men (mostly young enough to plant me firmly into the reprobate camp) skating---- the adrenaline, the excitement, the everything. It is a good thing hockey is. Yeah, you betcha'! I can even sing the Canadian National Anthem thank you very much!

But my Blues, how I love them! From Mr. Oshie who is cute as pie and skates like those blades are an extension of his body, to Mr. Tkachuk, the elder statesman (sorry Keith) who makes it all spin. Keith, you were born the year I graduated from high school, I think that might make you feel better about the whole elder statesman comment. The new guy Lars scored his first goal at the last game we were at, (his first N*HL game) that was so exciting to be there for----- and I think he is 12. I'm pretty sure he doesn't shave yet!!! ;) Mr. McDowell, man you are a scoring machine------ and so dang energetic! Mr. Backes might make the U.S. Olympic team, how cool is that????? Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn't sing the praises of my OTHER boyfriends Mr. Perron, B.J., Brad (2), and Jay------ you make my heart go pitter patter. Eric/k, Barret, Alex and Mike........... and oh Mr. Polak------- you guys work so hard! And you can't talk about your boyfriends without making sure that goalie Mr. Mason is not also on the list, gotta' love that guy.

Last night was without a doubt the BEST hockey game I've ever seen. Or at least in recent memory. (Once again, sorry Tom!!) There in seats twelve rows off the ice I watched the glory unfold. The first score came within minutes of the puck drop and they were at 4 by the time the first period ended. I was so in love with my boys!

Great hockey, lots of scoring, excellent butt kicking (Cam you ARE the enforcer), a WIN (canya' say 6-1) and free Big Macs? A very nearly perfect hockey evening, sorry Canuck*s fans.

Icing on the cake was the Hat Trick----- my first three-fer in a very long time. It was INCREDIBLE! Watching all of the hats flying from the seats onto the rink in mad abandon was great............ and left me wishing I had a hat of my own to toss. I briefly considered tossing my panties onto the ice but remembered several things. First, it was not a Tom Jones concert, my panties were under a pair of jeans and I know for a fact that I could not get my pants off and do the panty tossing thing in enough time to be considered anything less than some kind of awful threat. Lastly they are for pity sake granny panties and as I am all but ignored by the camera in the stands because I am not a young hot Puck Bunny (preferably blonde) tossing my granny panties onto the ice might get me arrested. It was Mr. Perron's first career hat trick, I'm pretty sure he would have dug the panty thing. Really.

I'm going to make you watch it here-------- you'll dig it---

Thanks boys, it was a glorious evening, even with hockey sticks and not my usual sticks of preference! If any of you are getting married, well................... you know who to call! :)

In the Rear View

Mickey and Jason's wedding is behind us and they're leaving today for their honeymoon in Jamaica. Unfortunately they were impacted by the hurricane out there tossing about, I'm sure they weren't the only ones that had to change plans at the last minute. Mickey is such an upbeat and sweet person, she was focused only on the positives--- that they could change their plans at all to stay out of the rain, and that they were going to have a wonderful relaxing time. Yay for happy girls!

The wedding show was shared with many of our Wedding Club vendor friends (who we really enjoy)---- at Windows on Washington yesterday. The bonus was that we were so pleased to have the chance to meet great brides and their friends and families.

One of my favorites was the bridesmaid who wore a silver tag that matched the brides that said brides B*. We always laugh that this is a job that 'someone' needs to fill and this adorable girl was hilarious about it.

I leave you with a last look at fall.................. somehow I feel short-changed and I know from talking to many of you, --you do too!

A glimpse of Kristen and Eben's fall engagement shoot------------- which sparkles brighter, the couple or the leaves?????

Shouting WHISPER

Our brides are so funny, several are planning to have babies, or have fear of the post wedding equivalent of the freshman fifteen. Some say "I have to do a special boudoir session for my honey before the body goes!" And of course, we know this could never in a million years be true!

BUT--- no matter the reason, it is time to schedule the last couple of Whisper Session openings ladies!!!!! A perfect gift that will be treasured FOREVER------- please join us on November 14th for our next Whisper Session.

Call or email me asap for the details and openings ladies!

You KNOW you want to!

Candy Overload?

Are you full of sweet treats? Overfull on candy corn? Too much chocolate? Or other Halloween Party indulgences that shall remain nameless? It's okay, November is here and with it comes the serious though of holidays. Once again a local radio station is playing nothing but holiday music, ho ho ho items have been in the stores for weeks now and somehow Thanksgiving will be upon us in the blink of an eye.

The image today is a current favorite! Don't you just love it when the bride and groom (Sarah and Jon), their favorite local hangout, and personalities come together to make a really great photograph? Absolutely! When the bride and groom were so much fun to work with it is icing on the cake.

See? Can't get away from food phrases today...............

Happy Halloween

Everyone at BBP sends Happy Halloween wishes.......................... along with hopes that you receive far more treats than tricks! Have fun and be safe!

Peek @ Palladium St,. Louis

We had the opportunity to join a group that previewed the Palladium, St. Louis' newest venue. Located very near the studio it was a short trip to check out this fabulous space. Brought to celebrants by the always excellent Butler's Pantry, this beautiful space did not disappoint!

The space can hold a LOT of people, I think I heard 400+. The venue is a soaring space that combines modern with traditional flair. Lots of glass, brick, urban and chic. The end result is a nothing short of spectacular!

Uber upscale, the table settings were nothing short of gorgeous, and can be customized to any taste.

The lighting is lovely and we could see that some of the fantastic lighting designers in town would have a field day with special touches. The hanging "screens" are customizable, can be used for light control and also function for slide/video shows. They provided a pop of excitement that was unique, interesting, very one of a kind and beautiful

The photo above is the second floor seating area, laid out for the occasion with a couple of additional bars, small tables and several areas filled with food. Speaking of the food it was quite delicious, everything from soup shooters and salad to veal, crab cakes, a vegetarian dumpling (which is not at all what it was called and I apologize!!), and much, much more. Signature cocktails (which I did not enjoy, sadly) received positive raves from everyone holding a piece of lovely stemware.

Dessert anyone? Funny how sweet confections bring out the best in everyone! The desserts at Palladium St. Louis were magnificent------- little tarts, mini cupcakes, truffles in several over the top flavors, a little marshmallowy bite bringing s'mores to mind, macarons in the French tradition, and so much more. Even chocolate dipped apples, some with gold leaf!!

Delicious..................... wonderful.................. yum! A sweet finish to an excellent event! As always you can count on me to give the most thorough review to the desserts!

Thanks Palladium St. Louis, we hope to be photographing beautiful events in this exciting new space! Brides and grooms and their families will be very lucky to host their festivities in such a beautiful and well staffed location!

Jayna & Patrick

We are so happy to welcome Jayna & Patrick to the BBP wedding family! With such a great couple and a wonderful family, we're sure to enjoy them! As always it is a super pleasure to be able to capture their love story with "Images from the Heart..."

Now if the rain would stop! Enough already! The chilly gray rainy-ness of STL this past month is making everyone pretty tired of it! I suppose we should be glad that it hasn't been cold enough to snow or we'd all have little flags on the top of our car antenna's! C'mon nice weather, you can do it!!!!!!

No Rings--- Just Soccer

Many of our long time clients have been asking................. so, how is Kyle? They remember him from years ago when he was a Select soccer player (and a good one). Or followed him during his high school years when he was a record setter. I mean, catch that huge banner on the side of the stadium----------wow!

He's great, thanks for asking. Bobbi's nephew remains an outstanding soccer player during his senior year of college. Autographs for the young fans are part of the deal----- surely other signings will follow.

Bobbi recently traveled to his school to watch him play---- and of course ph0tograph him as she has done for his entire life.

He's amazing to watch, skilled and fast and unbelievably energetic. How can you not love the game.................................. ahhhhhhhhhhh, soccer!

Loooooong Veil

While we're pretty sure that the veil in question is not haute couture (although it could be)---- did you catch the news feature about the world's longest bridal veil?

TWO MILES LONG.......... plus 453 feet. Seriously. That is a lot of tulle and I'm pretty sure it was more to handle than her bridal party and bride wrangler could handle! Apparently the Guiness folks were not on hand to document and to our way of thinking ---- then why in the world would you do such a thing.

Think of it this way, if tulle at retail is say, $6.00 a yard---------- plus the cost to actually construct the veil------ that is a lot of money. Lots and lots. I wonder how big the cake was?

Sorry, you have to slog through a bit of other crazy things (which in and of themself are most amusing!!!)

Great Show--- Designer Buzz

First things first, ---- a great show at Harrah's yesterday! Thanks so much to the wonderful brides, grooms, and parents that we had the opportunity to meet. The booth was at times super jammed (usual for us) and if we didn't get a chance to spend some time with you, we hope we can rectify that soon in the studio, out of the madness as it were.

Of course Vera Wang is one of our favorite bridal designers, her work is classic, fresh, contemporary and yet very "bridal" in the true sense of the word. If you haven't registered your email with her website you're missing out on great things. In today's "Behind the Dress" by 'VW on Weddings' there is an excellent opportunity to view a beautiful design, Amelia (seen above) and hear Vera herself speak about it's inception. In this post P*roject Runway era, even those who are not fans of design and the process are captivated by watching how a gorgeous gown evolves.
Wang's commentary on the design of "Amelia", the vision, the sketching, the process of draping and final ornamentation are interesting reading. Visit the site here for inspiration and sign up for her wonderful emails while you are there.

As a fashion design major in college my ultimate dream was to live the life in NYC! Life intervened of course but I'm still a fan of the designer and the process. Wedding gown design is such a specialized niche and I love to watch it done well. Wang is naturally in the very top percentage of designers around the world who have created a spectacular brand, including bridal. The fact that her sketching is shown for us all to appreciate is wonderfully interesting..... and gives me some satisfaction as my sketching was never (and still is not) perfection. Now, do make sure to ask me about my pair of charcoal palazzo pants----- sketched, draped, drafted and constructed. By the way, Vera? You have nothing to worry about!!! :D

Saturday, October 17, 2009

The SUN is out, finally! I'd almost forgotten the number of things that are inextricably linked to sunshine: warmer temperatures, blue skies, happier people.... the list goes on and on.

We're especially happy that the day promises to be lovely (albeit slightly chilly) for Sarah and Jon, today is their wedding day!

We'll be celebrating with them while smiling in the sunshine!

Tomorrow BBP will be at the wedding show at Harrah's in St. Charles from Noon until 4. St. Louis Best Bridal always puts on a wonderful day of bridal fabulosity, we hope to see you there! We hear rumors that brides have bribed their soon to be grooms with a bit of gambling should they attend the show---- names have been withheld to protect the guilty!

Hope your weekend is fabulous!

Couture Gowns: Amsale

One of our favorite bridal gown designers is Amsale Aberra, singularly known as Amsale (pronounced Ahm-sah'-leh). Her gowns are glorious, beautiful, elegant and highly coveted by brides everywhere. Timeless with a twist.

She's known by her clean design, her fashion forward approach to bridal. Amsale started her business in her NYC loft after her marriage and struggle to search for a gown that suited her needs.

An FIT grad, she opened her studio on Madison Avenue in 2001 and quickly made a name for herself in the industry. Amsale's bridal designs are foundin the U.S. in luxe boutiques and retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

This prolific designer heads theAmsale Design Group, including Amsale, Amsale Bridesmaids, Christos and Kenneth Pool. The Kenneth Pool line is designed by Project Runway alum, Austin Scarlett, while Amsale Aberra is the Creative Director for the Amsale and Christos lines.

Without a doubt Amsale will be delivering the most exquisite of gowns for seasons to come---- and we will be watching!

Miss Lily

Despite the madness (and totally ignoring a holiday Monday) around BBP, we've had some wonderful highlights lately!

One was shooting on Saturday with Lisa McDowell------ the consummate professional and all around great person. It was wonderful!

Second has been to embrace Family Portrait Time in a big way and have the opportunity to photograph former brides with their families---- just the best!

Below is Miss Lily. Her mama was a BBP Bride and how we love this beautiful 9 month old, she is gorgeous and funny and a kick!

Rudolph is her favorite toy---- and you can tell she just loves him!

Look at those eyes!! She's beautiful just like her mom and we can't wait to capture her life moments as she grows up!

Saturday, October 10, 2009

Breanne & Patrick

Today is the wedding of Bree & Patrick------ an event that is going to be nothing short of spectacular. Over the top gorgeous!

We'll have photos & a video to share next week so check back!

Enjoy your weekend & GO CARDS! Let's see if we can't pull it out!

Andi & Matt

We met Andi & Matt last year and have enjoyed getting to know them as their wedding day approached. That special day was last Saturday when they said their vows at the Artist's Guild in St. Louis. A happy bride and a smiling groom------- a lovely day!

Enjoy the video!

Shelly & Toney

Shelly & Toney, a more romantic love story you'd be hard pressed to find...........

They were high school sweethearts who drifted apart, each marrying others and each having beautiful daughters. Those marriages ended and Shelly & Toney found each other again and recognized that they were the collective loves of their lives. The next chapter in their love story happened last Friday in Hermann at Hermann Hill. (More about that later.....) Shelly's dress was lovely and her headpiece/veil------ fabulously vintage.

She looked so beautiful----------------------- and Toney agreed!

It was incredible to be able to share the special day of such wonderful people! Everything was just so wonderful! Even the very windy day that brought a bit of a chill did not dampen anyone's spirits, love and joy were absolutely the order of the day!

The countryside around Hermann is breathtaking and being in the vineyards made us all feel very German, or Tuscan! We had a great time on location in and around this German town, even stopping so the bride and groom could share a bottle of wine!

And the girls? They are both beautiful and had such a fun day at the wedding of their Mom and Dad to one another. I can say without reservation that this family will share many happy moments together.

Now, about Hermann Hill--------- what a GORGEOUS place! I don't rave about reception venues all that often but have only the finest things to say about this great spot! Not only was everything just beautiful and staffed by hardworking folks who love their job and have ultimate dedication to making everything just right. That itself was wonderful---- but how often do you hear every single guest RAVE about their dinner? No kidding, the food===== out of this world. Hermann Hill also has the most beautiful and decadently luxe guest cabins, I can't wait to go back and spend some time relaxing.

Thanks Shelly & Toney, you guys are incredible and we were blessed to capture your day with "Images from the Heart..."

Cool/Brides

The weather has turned decidedly cool, sweater weather at last. (If it could only stay this way instead of the gradual slide towards winter!)

Lots of brides to share a few images of as well of a Sneak Peek or two------ I'll be back in two shakes from the wonderful busy busy that is currently BBP!

Wild Weekend

A virtual parade of wedding couples----- a full weekend of capturing those special moments with "Images from the Heart..."

Let the fun begin!

Incorporating vintage

Vintage is all the rage currently, but there has always been a place in wedding planning to incorporate a bit of the old. What more is at the heart of "something borrowed, something blue?"

Most of our brides have more than the obsequious penny in the shoe on their wedding day. Need some ideas to bring your vintage items into the wedding day forefront:

  • use a vintage pin or brooch somewhere on your gown. A sash is an idea place if your dress has one
  • a cherished family photo can be placed in a locket and entwined with your floral arrangement, have your florist wire it FIRMLY and always use a photocopy of a priceless family portrait
  • have your Grandmothers lovely pin made into a comb for your hair and your stylist can build around that look
  • your wedding date can be embroidered onto a vintage handkerchief. Tuck it away and let future generations build onto it with their own dates.
  • use a special piece of vintage bling on an unexpected place on your dress...... pinned onto the back ties or high on a shoulder strap
Remember, if you don't have any vintage pieces YOU can be the start of the tradition! Choose something vintage of your own to wear on your wedding day. When the day is over, tuck the piece into a velvet box with a note about your name, your husbands name, your wedding date and any additional details. Keep in a safe place!

Adding vintage doesn't have to be expensive, but it adds big impact!

Soccer Time (redux)

It's no secret Bobbi loves her family, special niece and nephews at the top of the list. She's a proud soccer Aunt; for those of you who've read the blog over the years, you know that her nephew Kyle is a soccer star (now a senior) in Springfield.

Youngest nephew Alex is taking up the call as well and is playing soccer in his freshman year of high school.

We thought we'd share some photos--------

Sports related of course because Bobbi's hope is that Alex won't be the featured player in wedding photos for a good long time.

Good luck Alex!
