Top Tips For Flowers

Flowers are definitely a big part of a wedding, the color theme, the style, the mood. We get a lot of questions about the floral aspect of weddings because of our 25 years of experience, we have not only seen the trends, know the horror stories (and the shining moments), but we do have a wealth of ideas of insure that at least when it comes to blooms and blossoms a bride and groom can make the best choices possible on their special day.

Some of our Top Tips are:
  • Don't wait until the last minute to choose your florist
  • Ask for recommendations from other brides, look through local magazines and visit bridal fairs to narrow your search for the best florist for you
  • When consulting with florists be clear about your vision for your wedding. Bring color samples and photos of things you like.
  • Tell your florist how long your day is--- what time you want flowers delivered, if you are going on location for photography, and what time your reception ends.
  • Keep an open mind, florists can keep your budget in mind and might suggest things that are different (using different flowers or a mix of silk for example)
  • Ask if the florist is just dropping off flowers or if they will stay to make sure everything is arranged, Boutonnières are pinned on, etc.
  • If possible visit your florist(s) on a Saturday morning before they deliver flowers to their wedding. It gives you a chance to see the final product
  • No matter what season you are planning to marry, but especially in the summer months, ask that the florist prepare a couple extra boutonnières and include a box with vases of water for every bouquet. That way when the inevitable happens-- a boutonnière gets crushed, or a long day of photography threatens to wilt a bouquet, you can try to circumvent it.
  • Ask for some extra pins for the boutonnières. We carry extras in our emergency kit but there might not be someone with such a kit at your wedding.
  • Toss bouquets need to be practical--- remember you are throwing these flowers, lets not hurt someone by this floral trajectory!
  • A big pricetag for florals does not insure quality or satisfaction.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions

With careful planning and consideration, meeting with a quality florist and time to execute your vision, you can have lovely flowers at the wedding and keep them pretty until the end of your reception.

Gotta Wear Shades...

On a gray and stormy day we photographed Nick and Becky's wedding, it was their love that was shining so brightly you had to wear shades! The wedding was lovely, and despite the rain, they had a great time on the Trolley for photographs. We managed to go to some really fun indoor locations, and the sun broke long enough to get some beautiful Forest Park shots in. Nick really wanted to swing a club on his big day, thankfully the weather cooperated long enough to do that. Just as the sound of the club stopped, the skies opened again. It was delightful that they had such an upbeat and sunny disposition about the raindrops. Once at the reception, the bar was opened and dinner (which was REALLY good) was served to the happiness of their guests. The a/c went out briefly but that didn't get our bridal couple down either. They brought in big fans and were able to open a side door............. the festivities went on and the dancing never stopped.

One of our strong suits is unflappability--- and the ability to use 25 years of experience to insure that there IS a plan B............. Despite some glitches it was a beautiful day!

Thanks Becky and Nick, it was an honor and a pleasure!

All in a Name...........

Just a funny story from Hormone Haven, or the time spent with Tina's family when the girls came in for their road trip: Last Thursday in steamy St. Louis they went to the mall (because these out of towners are shoppin' fools!) and stopped for dinner at a Tapas bar. Well, the girls heard 'topless bar' and were in actuality quite disappointed that all the waitstaff were fully dressed and the focus was the food, the small plates! The day finished with a trip to the gorgeous St. Louis Botanical Gardens where the Chihuly glass is featured in and around the gardens--- it was just breathtaking. The photo above is of the red glass sculpture hanging below the bridge near the Japanese Garden. When the HH (formerly known as Hormone Havenites) were told about the trip, it was billed by it's popular name "Glass in the Garden". Now, knowing about how the phrase tapas bar was perceived can you only imagine Glass in the Garden????? Yes, well, we will just let it go here in print, but it was hilarious at the time. Tina says it must have been the cocktails.............

Today Bobbi Brinkman Photography is excited to photograph the wedding of Becky and Nick. It will no doubt be a lovely day and with luck the weather will hold.

Have a wonderful Saturday and remember, enunciation is everything!

Jonathan & Lorna

Another bride and groom joins the wedding family, and as always we are thrilled! Jonathan and Lorna, we are so pleased to welcome you both~ we are so looking forward to working with you and your families! Thank you for the honor and privilege of capturing your very special day with "Images from the Heart..." Lorna's Mom is a hoot and a half, we have no doubt that it will be anything less than a REALLY fun wedding!

It's been a wild week and Tina has been out of the Studio entertaining her Mom, Aunt, and Cousin. To hear her tell the stories of the Hormone Festival is pretty funny. This is a hilarious group of broads no doubt about it. Promise me you will ask her to tell you the story of her Mom's new beau and his Harley (an empty bladder is always a good idea!)

Add to the madness the fact that St. Louis is just good old fashioned stinkin' hot today and more is on tap for the weekend. We will be enjoying our day with Becky and Nick tomorrow, staying as cool as possible and having a great time photographing their celebration. Somehow, in the middle of the love and happiness-- it just never seems as hot! You know we will be back to post some of their images very soon!

Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget Dad this Sunday!

Don't Tell Jay Leno!

Let them wear clothes!

Yes, we know that Jay Leno's biggest peeve is people that dress up their pets! Well, don't tell him that Prince and Hana are sporting new duds! (And looking pretty darned cute too!)

Hana just loves her new dress, it's "Shabby Chic" you know! That little girl dog just prances and dances while wearing her new outfit, she seems to be as happy as a clam. (And, are clams happy anyway?) Just look at her happy (Elvis) smile in the photo above........ that girl is a born high maintenance clothes wearin' shopping pup!

Prince on the other hand absolutely HATES his madras golf pants, hates them! During the winter he loved to wear his red sweater, but these pants..................... not a good thing! Prince seems to be thoroughly embarrassed, he runs under the coffee table and hides, or tries to get behind the cushions of the sofa. When that fails, there is always the tactic of slinking down the hall and pouting. He does this little rolling, scooting dance that screams "take these stupid golf pants OFF me, now!"

The dogs went to Twilight Tuesday this week at the History Museum to hear the Motown Review concert and were fairly well behaved. Hana sported her sweet little dress and was the hit of the event-- everyone fussed over her. Prince on the other hand was pants-less and says that he has to stand on his amazing and inherent cute-ness!

Too funny!

Have a really GREAT Friday, no matter what you're wearing!

Always the groomsman?

Always the groomsman, never the groom? Well no more! At least for Rusty that is!

Last Saturday we were blessed to capture the wedding of a great couple. Rusty had been the ever present groomsman in quite a few of our weddings in the past and when it came time for he and his fiancee Lisa to choose a photographer they came to us. We were delighted then--- and certainly did look forward to their wedding day.

It was such a gorgeous day for a wedding, the weather was just about perfect and everyone had a great time. The bridal party wore really cute t-shirts after the ceremony with their name and number on the back, Cardinals logo on the front and the name of the bride and groom and the wedding date. It was so clever! By the time the guests were served cake and Ted Drewes custard at the reception everyone knew that they were part of a fabulous special occasion.

Thanks Rusty& Lisa, as well as the rest of the bridal party--- many of whom are part of the wedding family at Bobbi Brinkman Photography as well. Many blessings to you from all of us!

Jeff & Jonna

Love in the Air..........

Yesterday we had the pleasure of doing an engagement session with Jeff and Jonna, it was so much fun! The weather was perfect and the park cooperated with happy ducks and pretty foliage. Jeff and Jonna are teachers enjoying the summer off and they sparkled during their photos. Yes Jeff, it is good practice for those big smiles on your wedding day---- although the two of you won't have any trouble bringing out your really big grins!!

We will see them soon when we have the honor of capturing their wedding day with "Images from the Heart..."

Today is the wedding of Rusty and Lisa and it looks like the sometimes unpredictable St. Louis weather is going to cooperate with a really lovely day. We will post some images soon of their once in a lifetime special event.
